Muffins may feed our bodies, but care must also be taken to nourish our souls.

For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. —John 6:33

I had to be out on an errand early. I overslept a bit and didn’t have time for breakfast, so when I returned to the house, I automatically hurried to the kitchen for a cup of tea and a muffin.

god's perfect peace held in perfect peace

Upstairs a pile of unanswered letters, a mound of laundry, and a half-written manuscript awaited me. Soon it would be time to pick up the children.

Do I have time to read my Bible? I wondered. I felt so duty bound to the chores of the day.

Then my eye fell on the teacup and the muffin crumbs on the table. On coming in, hadn’t my first priority been automatically to feed my body? Then wasn’t my next priority to feed my soul?

I did just that. I took up my Bible and discovered once again that both bodies and souls function best when they’ve been nourished!
