First Light with Jesus

Mornings with Jesus contributor shares what keeps her devotional life exciting and fresh.

Mornings with Jesus Devotional Writer, Renee Andrews

My quiet time is in the early morning, when the world is waking up and I can see God in the sunrise. My husband and I begin each day with an early Bible study. Occasionally, we do something different to remind us how God is all around us.

This past weekend, we took an impromptu trip on the Goldwing and watched the sun rise over the Smoky Mountains while riding. It’s a different kind of quiet time, riding on a motorcycle and viewing God’s amazing creation, but it’s a wonderful quiet time. I am so close to God when we take our trips, and it definitely keeps the quiet time fresh when you are viewing God’s creation so clearly.

Typically, my quiet time is spent reading a devotional and Bible scripture. Most days, I sit at my kitchen table, where I can give God my complete attention and start the day with Him in control. I write my prayers in a journal and say prayers verbally with my husband. And occasionally, I find my quiet time while riding on the back of my husband’s Goldwing.

I give God my first fruits. Before I write out my list of things to do for the day, I give Him time first.

If for any reason I miss that time with Him, I feel a void throughout the day. Spending time with God gives me peace and perspective for the day’s journey.
