Count on God’s Promises

Turn to these Biblical passages when you need God’s comfort and reassurance.

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

When was the last time you made a solemn promise to someone? Did you keep that promise? Chances are you did. Keeping promises is how we develop trust in one another, how we come to believe in what people say.

The Bible is filled with promises. Do you think Christianity could have lasted for nearly two thousand years unless the Lord could deliver on them? Why, it would have been forgotten long ago! Cling to these promises, knowing that they were written for you. Here are just a few to encourage you today:

  • “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
  • “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
  • “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).
  • “Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2).
  • “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you…Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).

Christianity still maintains its ancient power in today’s world because there are always people who find out that God’s promises are true. So whatever your problems may be—poor health, a confused mind, wrong relations with people, unhappiness in the home, business problems—whatever they may be, put them in the hands of Jesus Christ, who knows more about such problems than you or I ever could. You may say this is claiming a lot. It certainly is. But it is not half of what we could claim. There are thousands of people everywhere who could bear witness as to what happens in human lives when Jesus Christ takes over, when the God of the impossible is given control.

As you read your Bible this week, look especially for God’s assurances. And remember, He always keeps His promises!
