The Blessings Keep Coming

Having a son serve in the military in the Middle East wasn’t something Guideposts blogger Edie Melson would have chosen. Those were difficult and stressful times for a mother. But they continue to bear blessings.

Guideposts blogger and military mom Edie Melson shares how the blessings keep coming, even from our struggles.

“Though I sent my great army against you—those swarming locusts and hopping locusts, the destroying locusts and the cutting locusts that ate your crops—I will pay you back for those years of trouble.” ( Joel 2:25, NLT)

This past week I had the opportunity to share my passion for supporting our military and their families with a local women’s group. As I spoke to an appreciative audience at the Daughters of the American Colonists meeting, it struck me how—when we let Him—God uses our difficulties to bless others.

Having a son serving on the front line in the Middle East wasn’t something I would have chosen. But the things I learned through that experience have given me hope as I face other challenges. There’s something healing about watching God bring blessings from our struggles.

God allows the struggles in our lives for many reasons—many we won’t know until we reach Heaven. But the one thing I do know is this. God is faithful. He brings good out of bad. I’ve watched Him do it in my life, and I’ve watched Him do it in the lives of those around me.

I’ve learned to watch for that redemption and anticipate it. It gives me hope as I walk through the challenges of today. Beyond that, I’ve found that there’s not a cut-off date for the blessings He brings. He continues to pour out good even years down the road. So no matter what’s happening today. We can rest in the fact that God has a plan, and we’ll see the fruit of the struggle ripen into blessings for tomorrow.
