On a whim I got up with the purpose of paying for the soldier’s coffee. As I got almost even with the men, the man with the son spoke up.

“Soldier, I’ve got this.”

The soldier tried to decline with thanks. But it was the other man’s next words that made me tear up.

“No, my wife is still serving. It’s my way of honoring her.”

These are the men and women who send loved ones off to danger with a smile on their faces and a prayer in their hearts. They are the foundation that gives our military men and women the freedom to serve. They keep things on track at home so our soldiers can keep their minds on the job at hand.

I hope you’ll join me in honoring them. Next time you meet one, shake their hand and tell them how much they’re appreciated.
