You See Me

You are the God who sees me.—GENESIS 16:13 (NLT)

Winters in Toronto always include snow and the occasional ice storm. I enjoy walking through our neighborhood when the trees are frosted and the sounds of the traffic are muffled by snow. Since my husband got sick, I do all the yard work, including shoveling the snow. I generally appreciate the exercise and fresh air.

This winter was more difficult than usual, though, for both the weather and my husband’s health. My husband experienced problems that increased his pain and decreased his mobility. The weather decided to squeeze all of the snow and ice of a typical winter into a little over a month.

I was tired and dreading the amount of manual labor that would be required to remove the ice from the driveway and sidewalk, but I couldn’t put it off any longer. I was making slow progress, with only a few inches of ice removed to show for my effort, when I heard my name called. I looked up to see my neighbor waving from across the street. “Could you use some help?” What beautiful words! Within moments, my neighbor and his son joined me in attacking the ice. With their help, it was removed quickly.

Lord, thank you for being the one who always sees me and knows my needs.
