As America’s 16th President, Abraham Lincoln led the nation through the Civil War. He issued the Emancipation Proclamation that freed the slaves and he gave The Gettysburg Address, one of the most famous speeches in American history. On Good Friday, April 14, 1865, he was assassinated at Ford’s Theatre in Washington by John Wilkes Booth. He is regarded as one of the country’s greatest presidents.
