Any Time Can Be Devotional Time

Mornings with Jesus contributing writer shares her approach to her time with God.

Gwen Ford Faulkenberry, Mornings with Jesus contributor

Somewhere along the line I picked up the mistaken notion that quiet time, devotion time, is separate from the rest of my life. Now I realize that my whole life is mostly “quiet time.”  I usually spend time reading the Bible or praying somewhere in my day, but it’s not the same time every day, and it’s not always planned.

I think the way I spend devotional time stems from my belief that all truth is God’s truth. For me, a sunset, song or poem can induce worship. I have no set formula; it’s about being open to the Spirit.

If I were to give tips for readers on how to achieve a consistent, meaningful quiet time, I would say first and foremost fall in love with Jesus. See spending time with Him as a treat, something you do to be kind to yourself because you need it to survive, not something you’re doing to earn His favor. Realize that any true love relationship is not based solely on feelings. Be faithful and trust Him to be faithful to you.
