When You Need a Reminder of God’s Love

In this excerpt from Time Out for the Spirit, three simple words reassure one man of God’s unconditional love.

Daniel Schantz

READ: Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Jeremiah 31:3

REFLECT: Whenever I back out of my driveway, the words I LOVE YOU appear in the rear window of my car in bold, white letters. Actually, the words are chalked on the back of our neighbor’s brick garage. A teenaged girl put them there, hoping her boyfriend would see them.

Most of the time I don’t even notice the words, but sometimes they seem to glow like a message from God, written with an angel’s hand. When I am angry, the message reads, “I LOVE YOU.” When I am torn with guilt, the words are, “I LOVE YOU.” When I am terrified of the future, He whispers, “I LOVE YOU.”

Those three words have taught me a lesson about the unconditional love of God. No, God does not love all the things I do, and He would like me to change. But always He loves me, no matter what.

PRAY: I know You love me, Father. Thank You for telling me every day in so many ways.

DO: Even though your friends and family know you love them, it always feels good to be reminded. Say it often.
