Prayer for the Month of Shooting Stars

“The heavens declare the glory of God…” So they do.

Shooting stars over trees in a beautiful night sky

Dear God, three thousand years ago, a shepherd boy who loved you counted his sheep at night with the great stars blazing down. Years later, as a mighty king, he wrote: “The heavens declare the glory of God…” So they do.

That’s why on August nights I love to watch for shooting stars, those golden streaks of fire, tiny visitors from outer space, incandescent from the friction that they meet when they invade our atmosphere.

God, let my passage through this world glow and sparkle sometimes so that those who watch may say, “Ah, look. Did you see that?”

Meaning they have glimpsed a fragment of your glory.
