Our Lenten Journey

God is the maker of heaven and earth; it is a privilege to join the Psalmist who has declared that his help comes from the Lord.

Prayer blogger Peola Hicks

I will lift up my eyes to the hills–From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)

As we approach the last week of the Lenten Season in preparation for Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, I am reflecting on my journey.

Pray a Day Vol 2 In Article Ad

Lent began back in March, and most of us were pretty excited about starting an experience that would bring us closer to the Lord. We thought of the 40 days that Jesus suffered and wanted to do something new or give up something that would help us grow in our knowledge of him and all that he suffered for our sakes. I am interested in knowing how the journey has been for you.

Here is how it has been for me: Yesterday, I woke up with the words of the Psalmist recognizing how much he needs God’s help. Psalm 121 is one of the Psalms of Ascent, which focus on keeping our eyes on God, looking up and moving forward in pursuit of him.

During this season, I have been focused on the fact that there is no one else more reliable than the Lord. I have been challenged with many choices and decisions that could not be made without the help of the Lord. I have heard people say that asking for help is a sign of weakness, but for me it has been a great strength.

I am so much more aware of my own humanity and cherish the fact that I can ask the Lord, who knows all things, to help me. He is the maker of heaven and earth; it is a privilege to join in with the Psalmist who has declared that his help comes from the Lord.

As you look forward to the end of this season, it may look dark for a while, but remember that keeping your eyes on God will lead you from the tomb to a risen Savior.

Prayer Point: Look back over your journey; pray and thank God for the opportunity to walk closely with him, and look forward to the resurrection.

God bless you!
