5 Human Rights Charities You Should Know

Today is Human Rights Day.

In 1950, the United Nations General Assembly declared December 10 to be Human Rights Day—a day in which the world would celebrate the “fundamental proposition in the Universal Declaration that each one of us, everywhere, at all times is entitled to the full range of human rights, that human rights belong equally to each of us and bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values.”

More than 60 years after this declaration, millions of children and families around the world still struggle to find food, to live in safety and to get medical treatment.

From refugee support to pediatric AIDS prevention, here are 5 organizations around the world to know.

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF)

Her daughter contracted the virus through breast milk and died of the virus in 1988, as the drugs available at the time were for adults and not children. Glaser founded EGPAF to conduct pediatric AIDS research before losing her own battle in 1994. EGPAF is now the leading non-profit in pediatric AIDS research, education and prevention in the world.
