Praying to Share Our Gifts

It’s always good to start the new year with a prayer point, one that points God in the direction of our need. Here is mine.

Prayer blogger Peola Hicks

We all have weaknesses. When I say weakness, I don’t mean a character flaw, but rather some skill set which is not very strong, something that does not come naturally. I consider myself to be a creative, critical thinker, but I would not say that I have a creative eye when it comes to designs and colors for graphic images and artwork. Understanding and being honest about my own strengths and weaknesses helps me function well within a team. Teams are built by assessing the strengths and weaknesses of all its members. I believe that is by God’s design so we have to be interdependent.

The fact is that we need one another. God has given us spiritual and natural gifts so that we can appreciate and encourage those around us. According to Romans 5, we are individually members of one body. We don’t have the same function. Our gifts differ according to God’s grace. We are all important to God, although we are all different. What we do with our gifts and talents also matters; I believe that God wants us to use them to show our gratitude to him and also to be a blessing to others. What a joy it is to know that I have something others need and likewise that those I work with have something I need. Together, we make a whole. Apart, we are fragmented and fall short of our goal.

For a while, I will still be thinking of 2013 as a new year. It’s always good to start the new year with a prayer point, one that points God in the direction of our need. My prayer point will be that I am continually aware of those around me who can help sharpen me by sharing their gift. The more I am aware of the gifts of others, the more I may find I am free to thrive. It is a win-win for all of us. I pray that this will be a great year of discovery for you as well.

God bless you!
